Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasised that dialogue and cooperation remain the only correct path for China and the United States, calling for both nations to jointly steer their relationship in a stable direction.
During a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Xi likened the bilateral relationship to a giant ship that requires both sides to take the helm and avoid distractions or disruptions, according to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency.
Referencing the recent economic and trade discussions in Geneva, held at the suggestion of the U.S., Xi described the talks as a meaningful step forward and welcomed by both nations and the international community. He stressed the importance of using existing consultation mechanisms to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes based on equality and respect.
Xi affirmed China's sincerity in resolving disputes while maintaining its core principles. He urged the U.S. to recognise the progress made, honour the agreements reached in Geneva, and roll back negative measures targeting China.
Calling for deeper engagement in areas such as foreign affairs, defence, trade, and law enforcement, Xi highlighted the need to build mutual trust and dispel misunderstandings.
In Taiwan, Xi warned the U.S. to act with caution, stressing that provocations from separatist elements must not lead to confrontation or conflict between the two nations.
